Celtics Crush Mavs in Game 1 of NBA Finals
Boston's Depth Overpowers Dallas
Luka-Kyrie Duo Struggles as Celtics Ground Mavs' Frontcourt
The Boston Celtics sent a resounding statement to the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals by dominating them 125-105. Boston's superior depth proved too much for Dallas, as the Celtics had seven players score in double figures.
The highly-touted duo of Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving struggled for the Mavericks, combining for just 35 points on 12-of-35 shooting. Meanwhile, Jason Tatum led the Celtics with 32 points, while Jaylen Brown added 24 and Derrick White contributed 21 off the bench.
The Celtics also dominated the battle in the paint, outscoring the Mavericks 52-28. Boston's size and athleticism proved too much for Dallas's frontcourt, as the Mavericks struggled to find easy baskets near the rim.
The Mavericks will need to make significant adjustments heading into Game 2 if they hope to even the series. They will need to find a way to generate more offense from their star players and better defend Boston's high-powered attack.
