Cowboys Sign Former Jets Defensive End Carl Lawson

Compensation

The Cowboys are signing former New York Jets defensive end Carl Lawson to a one-year deal, a source confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Lawson was due a non-guaranteed $15 million with the Jets, but the two sides have reworked his deal, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Lawson's Injury History

Lawson has not played in an NFL game since suffering a torn Achilles in August 2021.

He missed the entire 2021 season and the first three weeks of the 2022 season with a back injury.

Lawson's Return to the Field

Lawson returned to practice with the Jets on Tuesday and is expected to be ready for the start of the 2023 season.

The 27-year-old had 15 sacks in 34 games with the Jets.

Cowboys' Defensive Line

The Cowboys have been busy bolstering their defensive line this offseason, also signing defensive end Dante Fowler and defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins.

The Cowboys lost defensive end Sam Williams to a season-ending injury last week.

Conclusion

The addition of Lawson gives the Cowboys a much-needed boost on the defensive line, as they look to improve on their 12-5 record from last season.
