Mets Lose Heartbreaker to Angels, 5-4

Grand Slam by Martinez Not Enough to Lift New York to Victory

Bullpen Falters in Ninth Inning to Hand Los Angeles the Win

The New York Mets suffered a tough 5-4 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night, despite a late grand slam by outfielder Luis Guillorme. The Mets held a 5-2 lead after five innings, but a shorthanded bullpen couldn't hold the lead, allowing the Angels to rally for three runs in the ninth inning.

Guillorme's grand slam in the seventh inning gave the Mets a 5-2 lead, but the Angels chipped away at the lead in the eighth inning with a run-scoring single by Mike Trout. In the ninth inning, the Angels loaded the bases with one out, and Matt Duffy delivered a two-run single to tie the game. Shohei Ohtani then drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly.

The loss dropped the Mets to 15-13 on the season, while the Angels improved to 17-11. The Mets will look to bounce back on Tuesday night when they face the Angels again at Angel Stadium.
