Day One Features High-Profile Speakers

Convention Held Virtually Due to Pandemic

The 2020 Democratic National Convention kicked off its first night of virtual events on Monday, August 17th, with speeches from high-profile politicians including former First Lady Michelle Obama and Senator Bernie Sanders.

The convention is being held virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with delegates and speakers participating remotely. The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has said that the virtual format will allow for a more inclusive and accessible convention.

On the first night of the convention, Michelle Obama delivered a powerful speech in which she urged Americans to vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. She said that Biden has the experience and empathy to lead the country through these challenging times.

Senator Bernie Sanders also spoke on the first night of the convention. Sanders endorsed Biden and urged his supporters to unite behind him. He said that Biden is the best candidate to defeat Donald Trump and build a more just and equitable future.

The Democratic National Convention will continue through Thursday, August 20th. On the final night of the convention, Joe Biden will accept the Democratic Party's nomination for president.
